An award-winning toy retailer has revealed when its brand new store will open in Derby’s biggest shopping centre. Toy Planet is moving into a new unit that is twice the size of its current store in Derbion.
Currently positioned next to Starbucks on the ground floor, the local independent retailer is moving to a new location next to KRCS and Trespass on the same floor. The move will see the brand add over 1,200 square feet to its footprint.
Now, the scheduled opening date has been revealed to be Saturday, April 30 at 9 a.m. A spokesperson for Midco Toys/Toy Planet posted on their Facebook page to say: “Mark the date in your calendar. We have a date to work on. As long as nothing goes wrong, we’ll see you at 9 a.m. morning April 30.

At the time of the award presentation, Derbion Store Manager Rob Simms shared some of the reasons for their success. He said, “Hard work, dedication and knowledge. We always have the latest toys and the most unusual ones too. We don’t just stay in one lane, we branch out and do other things too. We’re pretty hot on Anime and we have an adult collection with horror and things like that.”
The company, which does business as Midco Toys, also has a Toymaster store at The Octagon shopping center in Burton. There’s currently a storefront up there set up by Ty Warner, founder and creator of the internationally renowned TY toymaker.
