How safe are Subaru vehicles? Subaru Corporation announced the Levorg sports car just won the JNCAP five-star safety award in Japan. The automaker has declared its goal of zero road fatalities by 2030, and the Levorg is bringing it closer. What does security technology mean for the Forest, Outback and Crosstrek?
New platform x
The all-new Subaru Forester, Outback, and Crosstrek models roll on the Subaru Global Platform, and Levorg gets the new x-platform with a full internal frame structure. Look for the next-gen Forester, Outback and Crosstrek models to get the optimized body structure with high-strength steel plates. The new architecture gives a crash safety performance.
Improved crash safety performance
Subaru claims that the new sport wagon improves performance on all front, side and rear surfaces and suppresses the increase in mass.
New Subaru models will also receive pedestrian protection airbags as standard equipment. The pressure sensor inside the bumper detects a collision with a pedestrian. It instantly covers the windshield and the lower end of the A-pillar with an airbag to reduce damage to the pedestrian’s head.
Improved field of vision
The next-generation EyeSight also features 360-degree detection by combining four front and rear radars in addition to a newly developed stereo camera that Subaru says “dramatically widens the field of view.”
Electric brake booster
The models will have improved software performance and adopt an electric brake booster, which will help avoid collisions in a wider range of scenes, such as turning left or right at an intersection or traveling in low visibility areas.
Subaru has already achieved the highest safety scores from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for the Forester compact SUV. Now they aim to use its advanced EyeSight safety system to achieve improved safety performance for zero fatal accidents in its automobiles.
Next year, the 2022 Subaru Forester is expected to receive a major refresh in its fourth year of the Subaru lifecycle. Look for the new model change coming with the new EyeSight X. The compact SUV is probably the first American model to be equipped with advanced technology. Next-gen Outback and Crosstrek will follow.
