SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) – Holiday shopping is well under way across KELOLAND, but this Saturday is specially designed to celebrate local toy stores.
“It’s a wonderful thing to go to a local toy store because we love toys, we love toys,” said Kidtopia owner Sheryl Nelson.
Toys have been Sheryl Nelson’s life since taking over Kidtopia in 2008; now both stores are busier than ever.
“Everyone did their shopping early which is really a really good thing. In fact, we sent our Christmas catalog a month earlier. We saw phenomenal results because of that because people were coming, ”said Nelson.
Many of these first-time buyers know that supply chain issues could limit their options as Christmas approaches.
“We are still receiving items from February and June orders.
Nelson normally orders all of her Christmas toys in August, but this year she started placing orders in June, just to make sure she would have enough stock on the shelves for the holiday season.
“We try to be really prepared, we have a lot of it in our back room, we have real storage behind the Bath and Body… and we are full, hoping for the best,” said Nelson.
They still get orders every day, but worry about running out of some products later in the holiday shopping season.
“Even some of our companies have stopped taking new orders to try and catch up,” Nelson said.
That’s why it’s making Neighborhood Toy Store Day bigger than ever this year and has even better deals than what you’ll find on Black Friday.
“We sell bags for $ 5 where everything inside is 20% off in-store purchases,” Nelson said. “Then that $ 5 will go to East River Foster Parent Networks as a donation to the community. We also have prizes throughout the day, Eileen’s cookies… it really is a great fun community day, getting people to come to their local toy stores for fun.
Neighborhood Toy Store Day is an initiative of the American Specialty Toy Retailing Association (ASTRA). Other ASTRA member toy stores in South Dakota are also running deals and specials for Neighborhood Toy Shops Day this Saturday.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday, Child’s Play Toys in Sioux Falls will feature Cookie Jar cookies and fudge, craft demonstrations, games and plenty of activities for kids. Buyers of children’s toys also can enjoy a big purchase more, save more discounts on all clothes.
In Rapid City, Who’s Toy House has two special events this week. On Veterans Day this Thursday, Who’s Toy House is giving all servicemen 10% off everything in the store. Then Saturday is not only Neighborhood Toy Store Day, but also the 10th anniversary celebration of Who’s Toy House. The Rapid City Toy Store will host an open house with custom cookies and coffee made locally and give away over $ 1,000 worth of toys at Saturday’s event.
Kidtopia Neighborhood Toy Store Day 20% off sale of bags, cookies and events are held Saturdays 10am to 6am at Bridges and 10am to 8am at Dawley Farm.
