Shang-Chi vs. Iron Fist: Who’s Stronger?

Netflix released a Iron fist TV show as part of his Defenders series. However, it received negative reviews. Marvel has picked up the Defenders, which will likely debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the future. Waiting for, Shang-Chi brings the world of martial arts to phase four. Shang-Chi and Iron Fist are both considered master martial artists, but some audiences have wondered: who is stronger?

Shang-Chi and Iron Fist abilities

Shang-Chi’s martial arts talent managed to take down characters with various powerful abilities. He is considered one of the best martial artists in the world in the comic book world. Shang-Chi is a skilled sniper with great mastery of weapons in many martial arts weapons. He also has the ability to control his own nervous system to counter drugs, poisons, and other toxins. Shang-Chi has the strength of a mortal man, but he is able to channel his chi to multiply that power.

Iron Fist, also known as Danny Rand, also uses martial arts and chi. He defeated Shou-Lao the Undying, which gave him the power of Iron Fist. This allows him to channel his chi to improve his abilities. The most iconic use of this power is when it gathers chi in its fist, making it powerful from another world. Iron Fist is also able to improve his speed, reflexes, senses and healing. Similar to Shang-Chi, he controls his own nervous system.

The Iron fist the series demonstrates some of these abilities, as does the MCU Shang-Chi. Marvel Comics have taken all of their heroes in different ways, varying in their power levels over the course of their existence. The MCU’s versions of their heroes tend to be weaker than their comedic counterparts.

Who is stronger?

The two characters have never met in the MCU. Plus, it’s likely that Marvel will rework Finn Jones’ Iron Fist. However, it is not excluded that the two characters will cross paths in the future of the MCU.

Shang-Chi is undeniably stronger than Iron Fist. Marvel’s official power ratings place Shang-Chi at seven out of seven, while Iron Fist is at six. However, that’s not the only reason why. The two heroes have fought in the comics on a tie before, but Shang-Chi is the most talented martial artist. His fellow heroes refer to Shang-Chi as a true “master,” with which T’Challa declaring he is a more powerful opponent than Danny.

Danny has more pure power when in possession of the Iron Fist, but Shang-Chi has better control over his combat skills. That also goes for this fight within the MCU. Shang-Chi collects all ten rings, which also provides him with amplified power. Therefore, Shang-Chi would be the big winner.

Martial arts in Marvel

Marvel went through a time when they released several heroes related to martial arts. Shang-Chi’s first appearance was in Marvel Special Edition # 15 of 1973, as Danny made his debut in Marvel premiere # 15 from 1974. The two most powerful heroes of Marvel martial artists are Shang-Chi and Iron Fist. Colleen Wing, Elektra, Daredevil, and Black Widow are other melee fighters, though they don’t match Shang-Chi and Iron Fist.

The MCU has now shown an interest in the martial arts side of comics, so it’s likely there will be more to come. The latest MCU movie shows some of what the main character is capable of, but audiences will have to wait and see how he plays Iron Fist. The Netflix series shows a rather weak iteration of the main character who certainly wouldn’t have the power to compete with Shang-Chi.

Shang-Chi is available exclusively in theaters from September 3.
