Motorcycle driver killed in Skyland Boulevard crash, Tuscaloosa police say


A 30-year-old motorcycle driver died in a crash Friday night on Skyland Boulevard, according to the Tuscaloosa Police Department.

Jason Troy Banks Jr. of Tuscaloosa County was riding a 1981 Suzuki motorcycle west on Skyland Boulevard around 6:30 pm when his motorcycle collided with a 2014 Honda Accord. The Honda rider was turning left onto Skyland Boulevard towards the parking lot of a shopping mall when the collision occurred, a spokeswoman for TPD said.

Banks died at the scene of the crash. The 35-year-old Honda driver was not injured and was among those who called 911 to report the crash, according to the TPD.

Members of the Tuscaloosa Police Department’s Accident Reconstruction Unit investigate the circumstances of the accident.

In other traffic accidents reported to law enforcement over the weekend of July 4:

• A 23-year-old Demopolis man died in an accident early Saturday morning in Marengo County.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Javiya Lamar McGrew was killed when the 2014 Toyota Camry he was a passenger in left the US 80 and struck a tree. McGrew, who state agents said was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 27-year-old Galleon, was taken to a nearby hospital to treat his injuries.

The accident happened at around 2:35 a.m., about eight miles west of Demopolis. The soldiers continue to investigate.
