WINDSOR EAST / ENFIELD, CT – The replacement of an aging water main spanning approximately 1.3 miles will begin next Monday with the Connecticut Water Company, resulting in detours in East Windsor and Enfield.
North Main Street in East Windsor, beginning at Route 140 or Bridge Street, and Depot Hill Road in Enfield, from Route 5 or King Street, will be closed to traffic from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Monday to Friday. Only local movement of residents, school buses and business customers and employees in the work area will be permitted, and aisle access will be maintained. The businesses in the work area will be open.
Detours involving Routes 5 and 140 are expected to be in place until mid-September, as a 7,000-foot mainline needs to be replaced. The whole project is expected to be completed by the end of October.
“The main to be replaced is between 60 and 80 years old and is a mixture of 6 inches and 8 inches in diameter. The new pipe will be primarily 8 inches in diameter, which will improve the reliability of the water supply system and increase the flow of water available to hydrants, ”said Craig Patla, vice president of delivery. Connecticut Water services. He added that the project is being carried out as part of the company’s Water Infrastructure and Conservation Adjustment (WICA) program, and that establishing a detour, from a partial road closure, will allow the project to be completed as quickly and safely as possible.
