Duncan’s Toy Shop to Host Annual Donor Appreciation Day | Community

The Christmas spirit shines through local donors throughout the county and Duncan’s Toy Store will show its gratitude to donors on Monday.

Each year, Toy Shop of Duncan raises funds through various activities to provide toys for children in families who might need a little extra help this holiday season.

In anticipation of the Christmas season, the toy store will host its annual Donor Appreciation Day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on November 29 at 111 S. 9th Street in Duncan.

Kim Davis, executive director, said come to the toy store and bring a toy or donate money and enjoy a treat.

“We registered over 400 children when we first signed up and expect many more over the next few weeks,” she said. “Come see us and make Christmas brighter for Duncan’s children.”

Duncan’s Toy Store was established in 1947 by the American Association of University Women (AAUW). In 1966, Church Women United took ownership of the project as it aligned with their mission to serve the local community and had outgrown the AAUW. The Toy Shop has been bringing Christmas to children and families in Duncan for nearly 75 years.

One of the goals of the toy store is to provide a child with a toy that they may never have the opportunity to receive. This means more Toy Shop events are on the horizon and more donations are needed.

To achieve this goal, this year’s annual toy race will be held on December 4.

Events like the Toy Race help Toy Shop of Duncan bring Christmas comfortably to more than 1,200 children in Duncan thanks to an all-volunteer staff, totaling nearly 150 people, plus a committee overseeing the program and donations.

As in the past, the Toy Shop accepts donations of used toys for Christmas presents or the jumble sale, families or companies to adopt families, and of course monetary donations and new toys. The group of volunteers also shop for gifts wherever they can find the best deal on the hottest toys.

Donations can be mailed to Duncan’s Toy Shop at PO Box 206 Duncan, OK, 73534. For more information, call 580-255-9625 or visit Duncan Toy Shop online at toyshopduncan.com.
